Reproductive Psychiatry Fellowship
The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill Department of Psychiatry is offering a 12-month fellowship providing advanced subspecialty training in the field of reproductive psychiatry. This fellowship also includes protected time for scholarly or research experience.
UNC Reproductive Psychiatry Fellowship_2026-2027
The fellowship is embedded within the department’s Center for Women’s Mood Disorders, a national leader in the field of reproductive psychiatry. Fellows will have broad exposure to clinical care across the reproductive lifespan.
Clinical Rotations May Include:
- Outpatient perinatal psychiatry clinic, which works closely with UNC’s OB/GYN department and fellows may have the option to participate in a co-located maternal fetal medicine clinic
- The Perinatal Psychiatry Inpatient Unit (PPIU), the first of its kind in the United States
- Outpatient menopause clinic, an interdisciplinary clinic which supports women during midlife and includes close collaboration with psychology and gynecology
- NC MATTERS, the North Carolina Perinatal Mental Health Access Program
- Potential electives: interested fellows may have the opportunity to rotate with our perinatal loss clinic or to gain additional exposure to behavioral psychotherapies for women across the life span (e.g., behavioral activation)
Scholarly Experience:
- Fellows will have protected time for scholarly work, which can include developing teaching skills and involvement in ongoing research protocols within the center
- Examples of potential projects include working with the PPIU biobank, helping with clinical trials for perinatal or perimenopausal depression, and supporting translational studies examining the role of stress in perimenopausal depression
- Candidates interested in developing a research career may also inquire about additional protected time and research mentorship, including the potential option of adding on a second year of fellowship that is research-focused
Supervision and Didactics:
- There are numerous opportunities for learning from formal didactics in both clinical and research settings, as well as weekly individual supervision

Who Can Apply
Successful applicants will have completed an ACGME accredited psychiatry residency prior to the start of fellowship.
