In the journal Clinical Cancer Research
Congratulations to physician-scientist Dr. Andrew Wang, Associate Professor of Radiation Oncology and a member of the UNC Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center, for his recent, high profile publication in the journal Clinical Cancer Research.
Dr. Wang’s laboratory team, along with colleagues from the University of Wisconsin at Madison, researches circulating tumor cells – cells that detach from a patient’s main cancerous mass and float freely in their bloodstream. The collection and analysis of these cells can provide clues about any unique biological characteristics of the particular tumor, how well a tumor’s treatment is progressing, or whether a previously-treated cancer is about to return. (The appearance of circulating tumor cells in the blood can also provide an early warning that an initial cancer is developing.)
