North Carolina Jaycee Burn Center

Congratulations to Char-Norie Poteat, BSN, RN-BC, named UNC Health’s 2023 Nurse Manager of the Year.

Char is the Nurse Manager for inpatient unity 5 East Memorial Hospital, part of the North Carolina Jaycee Burn Center.  She leads a talented and caring team of nurses and collaborates across our multidisciplinary burn team as a model for all.

In 2021, Char’s unit, 5 East inpatient unit was awarded a GOLD level Beacon Award for Excellence from the American Association of Critical Care Nurses (AACN).  AACN created the Beacon designation to recognize individual units that have set a path to excellence in an effort to highlight those that distinguish themselves in every facet of patient care. A unit must meet defined criteria in the following categories: Leadership Structures and Systems; Appropriate Staffing and Staff Engagement; Effective Communication, Knowledge Management and Learning Development; Evidence-Based Practice and Processes; and Outcome Measurements.
Char also serves at our Aftercare Team’s survivor support events on the nursing and healthcare team during programs such as Camp Celebrate.
We appreciate Char and all the nurses who are integral to our team-based care of burn survivors and their loved ones.
