On Friday, February 22, 2013 Crystal J. Neely defended her thesis and received her PhD from the Department of Surgery North Carolina Jaycee Burn Center and the Department of Microbiology and Immunology. This was the first PhD student in the area of burn research.
Dr. Neely then presented a portion of her thesis at Surgery Grand Rounds on Wednesday, February 27, 2014. Her presentation was entitled “Cellular Mechanisms of Immune Dysfunction Following Severe Burn Injury”. Dr. Neely’s mentors were Dr. Bruce Cairns, Medical Director of the North Carolina Jaycee Burn Center and Robert Maile, PhD, Department of Surgery and Department of Microbiology and Immunology.
