Rob Maile, PhD and June Brickey PhD of the North Carolina Jaycee Burn Center and Departments of Surgery, and Microbiology and Immunology have received a $75,000 grant from the NIH-administered Radiation Countermeasures Center of Research Excellence (RadCCORE) to study “Immunomodulation of immature monocytes after combined burn-radiation injury”. This is a one year Pilot project that identifies and tests specific countermeasures to promote pro-inflammatory function of the immune system toward fighting subsequent infection after combined burn and radiation injury.
