The nationally syndicated news program Hardball with Chris Matthews is planning to air a story about The UNC Burn & Surgical Initiative in Malawi tonight, Friday, October 10, 2014 at 7:00 pm on MSNBC.

The segment is called “Let Me Finish” and is typically at the end of the broadcast. After the show airs, the segment will be available on the Hardball website at http://www.msnbc.com/hardball. More information about the UNC Burn and Surgical Initiative in Malawi is available at https://uncmalawiburn.org/.
Chris Matthews was a student at UNC-Chapel Hill and served in the Peace Corps in Africa and has taken a great interest in the work that UNC’s North Carolina Jaycee Burn Center is doing in Malawi.
There is a high risk of burn injury in Malawi, as homes are heated with open flames. With the support of Johnson & Johnson, UNC has created a Burn Center at the Kamuzu Central Hospital in Lilongwe, Malawi. UNC is training Malawian surgical residents in the treatment of burn injury, with the hopes that they can become self-sufficient. Seventy percent of the patients treated in the center are children under the age of 10.
