The website provides information on a long-term research study based in Johnston County, NC, which is designed to measure the frequency and impact of osteoarthritis on individuals and the surrounding community.

The website was created to be helpful for people who are currently participating in the study, as well as those who are considering doing so and would like more information.

The Johnston County Health Study seeks to determine how common osteoarthritis, pain, and disability are in the county, as well as gain insights regarding its impact. It is vitally important to better  understand this disease because arthritis affects over 54 million adults in the United States and frequently occurs with other health conditions, like diabetes and heart disease.

The study is also examining how osteoarthritis is related to other health conditions, such as injury, obesity, diabetes, and heart disease.  It is currently recruiting African-American, Hispanic and White adults, ages 35 to 70 years old, who reside in Johnston County, North Carolina.
