
The National Institute of Arthritis and Musculoskeletal and Skin Diseases (NIAMS) recently awarded an R21 grant to Dr. Richard F. Loeser, Jr., Director of the Thurston Arthritis Research Center (TARC) and Joseph P. Archie, Jr. Eminent Professor of Medicine in UNC’s Division of Rheumatology, Allergy, and Immunology, for the project, “Targeting Signaling Pathways with Small Molecules in Osteoarthritis.” The overall goal of this project is to use a novel high throughput small molecule screening technology combined with CRISPR screening and target prioritization tools to identify signaling pathways and therapeutic targets for disease modification in osteoarthritis.
Co-investigators on this project include Dr. Kenneth Pearce, Jr. in the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy, Dr. Shawn Gomez, in the UNCs Department of Pharmacology and Biomedical Engineering and Dr. Philip Coryell a postdoctoral fellow in TARC.
