The Carolina Geriatrics Workforce Enhancement Program was part of an Interprofessional Education Collaborative on campus that brought together 250 students from 10 disciplines to practice care planning for older adults. Over the course of 2 days teams of 10 learned about the disciplines of dentistry, dental hygiene, medicine, nursing, nutrition, occupational therapy, physical therapy, public health, social work and speech and hearing sciences and applied their expertise to three geriatrics cases. Students learned how to prioritize multiple chronic conditions, how to address social determinants of health and how to work efficiently in interprofessional teams including the patient’s perspective in care planning.
