Melina Kibbe, MD, will headline the July 27 Science Café event at the N.C. Museum of Natural Sciences in Raleigh. Kibbe will be discussing the importance of sex equity throughout the biomedical research pipeline.

Melina Kibbe, MD, Zack D. Owens Distinguished Professor and Chair of the Department of Surgery at the UNC School of Medicine, will headline the July 27 edition of the N.C. Museum of Natural Sciences’ Science Café Series.

Kibbe is a nationally recognized advocate for sex equity throughout the biomedical research pipeline: from cell research to human clinical trials. Her advocacy around this issue has resulted in policy changes from the National Institute of Health, the Government Accountability Organization, and the Food and Drug Administration.

She is also a leading voice in academic surgery, currently serving as editor of JAMA Surgery, and a renowned researcher with significant NIH support for her work on the development of novel therapies for patients with vascular disease.

The Science Café will take place at 7 p.m. Thursday, July 27, in The Daily Planet Café, 121 W. Jones St., Raleigh. The event is free and open to the public.
