Every year, the department’s highly regarded CME conference draws a large number of anesthesiologists from across the U.S. to Kiawah Island to hear experts share the latest in evidence-based, peri-operative medical/surgical approaches to anesthesia care. Hosted by UNC Anesthesiology from June 19th to 22nd at the Kiawah Island Golf Resort, the 35th Annual Carolina Refresher Course (CRC): Anesthesiology, Pain & Critical Care Medicine in 2024 was no exception. Marking its largest attendance to date, the 2024 CRC drew 125+ participants. Attendance included 15 UNC Anesthesiology clinical and research faculty and four Guest Lecturers sharing their expertise in diverse topics, as well as exhibitors and close to 100 anesthesiologists.

CRC Course Director and UNC Anesthesiology Vice Chair of Education Rob Isaak, DO, and Assistant Professor and CRC Course Co-Director Jacob Acton, MD, served as Panel Discussions co-moderators over this year’s four-day conference. The two 2024 CRC leaders reflected:

“Every year, CRC delivers extremely high-quality lecture updates, workshops, panels, and problem-based learning discussions on very relevant topics to clinical practice including general anesthesia, cardiac anesthesia, critical care medicine, regional anesthesia, pain management, and beyond. Our talented and diverse faculty from UNC and other visiting institutions provide entertaining presentations that give attendees the information they need to stay on top of the latest advances in clinical care. Additionally, CRC serves an excellent opportunity for alumni to spend time with old friends and mentors from their days at UNC while in the beautiful location of Kiawah Island.”

Mark June 18-21 on your calendars for the 2025 Carolina Refresher Course, to be held again at Kiawah Island Golf Resort!
