Among patient care providers that medicine honors annually via recognition days, a highly representative group of physicians within an academic medical center cannot be overlooked – residents and fellows. Led by the Gold Humanism Society, “Thank a Resident and Fellow Day” celebrates residents and fellows as vital patient care contributors and as critical team members in the healthcare workforce.
This year, UNC Hospitals joins teaching hospitals across the U.S. in celebrating its post-graduate learners for “Thank a Resident and Fellow Day” on Friday, February 23rd. The Office of GME, Gold Humanism Society UNC School of Medicine students and UNC Anesthesiology members were on hand at the NC Cancer Hospital to thank trainees going on duty with a grab-and-go breakfast and appreciation gifts. Hospital-wide, faculty wore their appreciation with “We Love our Residents and Fellows” buttons.
UNC Anesthesiology Resident Program Director Susie Martinelli, MD, FASA, noted: “Our top priority as the UNC Department of Anesthesiology is providing outstanding care to the people of North Carolina. We would not be able to fulfill this mission without the dedication, compassion, and attention to detail provided by our amazing residents and fellows. We are grateful to work with these fantastic trainees and are proud to have them on our team.”
