UNC Department of Anesthesiology is thrilled to recognize Susie Martinelli, MD, FASA, for being selected from a national pool of leading Anesthesiology educators to serve on the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME)’s Anesthesiology Residency Review Committee (RRC) in October 2022.  In early November, Dr. Martinelli was re-elected to serve as a 2022-2023 Association of Anesthesiology Core Program Directors (AACPD) Council member.

Dr. Martinelli is among 12 distinguished Anesthesiology residency program leaders across the U.S. who were named to a six-year appointment on the ACGME’s standards-setting RRC for residency education in this medical specialty.  The collaborating members of this ACGME RRC are responsible for setting and enforcing the standards and governance of educational training across all ACGME-accredited Anesthesiology programs nationwide. Named to her second 12-month AACPD Council term, Dr. Martinelli is among four members who assist top leadership in guiding residency program leaders nationwide through reshaping their programs in accordance with shifting training requirements and policies in anesthesiology education.

UNC Anesthesiology Chair David Zvara, MD, FASA, noted: “Selection to serve on the ACGME Anesthesiology Residency Review Committee is reserved for the most outstanding thought leaders in Anesthesiology education and training. This appointment speaks volumes about Dr. Martinelli’s work and contributions to our field. She will contribute invaluably to this committee, and we thank her for helping shape the training standards of a governing body that is critical to the ongoing integrity of Anesthesiology residency and subspecialty residency programs nationwide.”
