Edward A. Norfleet, MD ’70 Distinguished Professor and Residency Program Director Susie Martinelli, MD, FASA, has long been recognized as a national leader in anesthesiology education. She is one of 12 distinguished Anesthesiology residency program leaders nationwide currently serving on the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME)’s Anesthesiology Residency Review Committee (RRC). Dr. Martinelli has also served as the Association of University Anesthesiologists (AUA)’s Educational Advisory Board Chair, an Association of Anesthesiology Core Program Directors (AACPD) Council member, and on the Society for Education in Anesthesia Board of Directors, among other national leadership posts. 
UNC Anesthesiology is pleased to recognize Dr. Martinelli’s election and appointment to two positions in 2025 that reaffirm her place among leading decision-makers nationwide in the field of anesthesiology education. In July 2025, Dr. Martinelli was elected Vice Chair of the ACGME Anesthesiology RRC she serves on as a six-year appointee (2022-2028). In November 2025, she was appointed President-Elect of the Association of Anesthesiology Core Program Directors.
