UNC Anesthesiology applauds the Division of Obstetric Anesthesia for guiding UNC Medical Center toward achieving recertification as a Society for Obstetric Anesthesia and Perinatology (SOAP) Center of Excellence designation in spring 2023. The institution first earned SOAP Center of Excellence designation in 2019.

Since SOAP first named designated Centers of Excellence across the U.S., institutions and programs have been recognized for their excellence in providing and demonstrating safe and effective obstetric anesthesia care. SOAP Centers of Excellence designation is based on current clinical practice, as well as continued, ongoing education in obstetric anesthesiology.

Associate Professor Ben Cobb, MD, has served as UNC’s Obstetric Anesthesia Fellowship Director since 2020. Dr. Cobb noted: “This designation is a reflection of the collective efforts of the entire labor and delivery team in ensuring continued quality assurance/improvement and evidence-based obstetric anesthesia care for all of our patients.”
