SungHo Lee, headshotDr. SungHo Lee received a NIDA Phase I SBIR award with Actuated Medical Inc. This award is granted via the NIH HEAL Initiative, with Dr. Lee being the subcontract PI at UNC. The project aims to evaluate a novel ultrasonic vibration system for electrode implantation during deep brain stimulation (DBS). The success of which will make DBS surgical procedure quicker, more reliable, and safer for the treatment of addiction. Dr. Lee’s team will couple this novel vibration system with a MR-compatible, polymer-based flexible microelectrode array developed by Dr. Lee and his collaborators, and perform a series of in vivo assessment on insertion reliability, accuracy, and tissue damage in rats using multiparametric MRI and histology. Congratulations Dr. Lee!
