Dr. Dale Cowley has been promoted to Associate Professor in the Department of Genetics, effective 9/1/21.
Dr. Cowley received his B.S. degree in Microbiology (Molecular Biology emphasis) from Brigham Young University in 1994 followed by his Ph.D. in Oncological Sciences from University of Utah in 1999. Dr. Cowley then served as a Postdoctoral Fellow in Cancer Research (2000-2005) and then as a Research Associate (2005-2007) at the UNC Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center. Dr. Cowley moved to GlaxoSmithKline Pharmaceuticals as an Investigator (Transgenics, Viral Vectors and Sequencing) in the Discovery Technology Group and worked there in 2007-2009, before being recruited back to UNC as a Research Assistant Professor in the Department of Genetics. He was also named the Director of the Animal Models Core Facility and the Co-Founder and Chief Scientific Officer of TransViragen, Inc., roles in which he has served since 2009.
