Dr. Dan Schrider, Assistant Professor, Department of Genetics, has been awarded a subcontract from UNC Greensboro for an R01 funded by NIGMS.

The proposal, titled “Investigating the impact and patterns of homologous recombination and adaptive evolution on bacterial genomes”, will focus on inferring recombination rates across a large number of bacterial species and examining the role of natural selection on protein sequence evolution in bacterial species. In particular, the three aims are to characterize the evolution of recombination rates and patterns across bacteria, to map the recombination landscapes of bacterial genome, and to elucidate the contribution of adaptive evolution in bacteria.  The PI for the project is Dr. Louis-Marie Bobay at UNC-G and the award is for five years.
