Julianne O’Daniel, MS, CGC

Ms. Julianne O’Daniel, MS, CGC, has been promoted to Clinical Professor in the Department of Genetics, effective January 1, 2025.

Ms. O’Daniel received her BS in Biology at UNC-Chapel Hill (1997) and her MS in Genetic Counseling at University of Pittsburgh Graduate School of Public Health (1999).  She was certified as a Diplomat of the American Board of Genetic Counseling in 1999 and has held this distinction since, most recently renewed in 2024.  Ms. O’Daniel was employed as an Associate in Research at Duke Institute for Genome Sciences & Policy (February 2008-May 2010) and a Clinical Genomics Liaison at Illumina, Inc. (March 2010-February 2013).  She was appointed Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of Genetics at UNC-Chapel Hill in April 2013 and promoted to Clinical Associate Professor in January 2020.

Ms. O’Daniel’s primary research emphasis has been focused on improved clinical access, and broad integration of genomic medicine for the people of North Carolina. This is exemplified through several research areas, including qualitative research, applying focus group methodologies, semi-structured interviewing techniques, and community participatory engagement.
