Karen Mohlke, PhD, Professor, Department of Genetics

Dr. Karen Mohlke (Professor, Genetics) successfully renewed her R01 grant from the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK) for her project titled “Targeted genetic analysis of T2D and quantitative traits”.

The project is designed to map liver cell-type gene expression and transcriptional regulatory elements using chromatin accessibility data in >500 samples, identify cell-type eQTL and caQTL, perform multi-omic integration to identify variants and genes that affect T2D risk and QT variability, and assess the function of variants and genes using high-throughput transcriptional reporter assays, genome editing, and assays of liver gene function.
