The Department of Genetics is pleased to welcome Dara McDougal, MS as Assistant Professor/Genetic Counselor and Susana Garcia-Recio, PhD as Assistant Professor. 

Laura Raffield, PhD has been appointed as tenure-track Assistant Professor in the Department of Genetics, effective 29 July 2022. 

Hector Franco, PhD (Assistant Professor, Genetics) was awarded a new R01 grant from the National Cancer Institute (NCI) for his project titled “Posttranslational regulation of FOXA1 in breast cancer”. 

Yun Li, PhD (Professor, Genetics and Biostatistics) was awarded an R56 grant from the National Institute of Aging (NIA) for her project titled “Study of selective cell and system vulnerability in Alzheimer’s disease”.

Sarah Brotman (Genetics and Molecular Biology Graduate Student in the Karen Mohlke lab), Saygin Gulec (Bioinformatics and Computational Biology Graduate Student in the Tim Elston and Klaus Hahn labs), and Nisitha Sengottuvel (Genetics and Molecular Biology Graduate Student in the Chad Pecot lab) participated in the 2022 UNC “Shadow a Scientist” Program.
