Dr. Piotr Mieczkowski (Associate Professor, Department of Genetics; Technical Director, High Throughput Sequencing Facility) was awarded Boost funding from the UNC SOM Dean’s Office for his project “First Multi-Omic Study of Bat Longevity as a Model for Neurodegenerative Diseases”.

The UNC Department of Genetics is excited to announce the UNC Educational Pathways to Increase Diversity in GEnomics (EDGE) training program for undergraduate students.

Jenny Ting, PhD, is the recipient of the Illinois State University Distinguished Alumni Award for her outstanding immunology research.

Dr. Yuliya Pylayeva-Gupta (Associate Professor, Genetics and Member, UNC Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center) has received the 2022 Mark Foundation for Cancer Research “Emerging Leader Award” for her project titled “Reprogramming B cell fate and function in cancer”. 

Four Genetics faculty members have been named among the world’s most highly cited researchers in their respective fields for 2021.

Dr. Jason Stein has been promoted to Associate Professor with tenure in the Department of Genetics, effective January 1, 2022.

As part of the Forward Together Strategic Plan, the UNC School of Medicine committed $100,000 this year to fund pilot neuroscience research projects through the NeuroSpark event.
