The Department of Health Sciences believes that all students should have the opportunity to pursue their educational goals with the least amount of debt possible. Our development team, faculty, and staff all constantly work to find resources to support the students that enroll in our programs. Even so, we cannot fund all students at the levels we would like, and we encourage students to seek out opportunities to help their educational costs either at the beginning of their program or after they graduate. The North Carolina Forgivable Education Loan For Service

The Forgivable Education Loans for Service provides financial assistance to qualified students enrolled in an approved education program and committed to working in critical employment shortage professions in North Carolina. The North Carolina State Education Assistance Authority provides administration for the program.

Federal Direct Loans

The William D. Ford Federal Direct Loan (Direct Loan) Program is the largest federal student loan program. Under this program, the U.S. Department of Education is your lender.

The U.S. Department of Education has two federal student loan programs available to graduates.

  • Direct Unsubsidized Loans. These loans made to eligible undergraduate, graduate, and professional students, but in this case, the student does not have to demonstrate financial need to be eligible for the loan.
  • Direct Graduate PLUS Loans. These loans made to graduate or professional students and parents of dependent undergraduate students to help pay for education expenses not covered by other financial aid.

Students must complete a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) using the code 002974 each year that they wish to be eligible for these loans.

Departmental and Divisional Scholarships

Each year students who complete the Department of Health Sciences scholarship application are eligible for scholarships from the department and their respective division. This application opens each April. Students will be notified when the application is available. Most scholarships require that students have a FAFSA on file as financial need is component of many of these scholarships.

VA Education Support (After Graduation)

Public Loan Service Forgiveness Programs (PSLF) (After Graduation)

Congress created the Public Service Loan Forgiveness Program to encourage individuals to enter and continue to work full-time in public service jobs. Under this program, borrowers may qualify for forgiveness of the remaining balance due on their eligible federal student loans.
