Research Project Coordinator
UNC Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center
Role in the Center:
Project Coordinator, Project 1
Administrative Core
DEI Working Group member
We have identified diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) as an important priority for our work. To ensure our activities address DEI issues, the Administrative Core established a DEI Working Group led by Dr. Sachiko Ozawa, who serves as Equity Advocate for the P01.
Working group members will be P01 faculty, trainees, and staff, including a dedicated staff person. The working group will meet monthly, provide quarterly updates at our Integration Meetings, and present an annual report at our Annual Scientific Retreat. The working group will help keep the P01 accountable to recruit diverse talent and encourage research projects to incorporate DEI in how research is conducted and shared.
Build a diverse and inclusive IMPACT P01.
Promote DEI in our research.
Incorporate DEI in research dissemination.
Accomplishments so far include standardizing the measurement of race, ethnicity, and rurality across projects, evaluating the racial and ethnic diversity of our program members, filling open positions with an eye toward equity, supporting racial equity and inclusion trainings for all study personnel, having presentations and team discussions about DEI frameworks for our research, and including DEI topics in our research (e.g., communication with Hispanic families about HPV vaccination).
