Accommodations
Accommodations at the School of Medicine
The UNC School of Medicine partners with the University Compliance Office (UCO) to ensure that students receive appropriate classroom and testing accommodations. To request accommodations, students must submit documentation of their disability directly to UCO. Please refer to the UCO website for detailed information about documentation requirements. UCO will review your materials and follow up with you regarding your request. If accommodations are approved, UCO will also notify the School of Medicine liaison, Dr. Valerie Glassman, Senior Director for Student Affairs.
While students are not required to disclose any information about their disability to School of Medicine staff or faculty, they are welcome to contact Dr. Glassman (valerie_glassman@med.unc.edu) for support with navigating the accommodations request process and for guidance on how to implement approved accommodations effectively during medical school. Conversations with Dr. Glassman are voluntary, and may include broader questions or concerns about accessibility or disability inclusion in the learning environment.
Students seeking accommodations for religious observance should refer to the UCO Religious Accommodations page.
