Dr. Batsis also says these medications, “work best when they are combined with lifestyle changes like following a healthy diet and getting regular exercise.”

In addition, Dr. Batsis says that certain side effects of these medications (nausea, stomach pain, diarrhea, and vomiting) seem to be more common among older adults. On top of all that, people using these medications may need to take them for many years, possible even for the rest of their lives.
