Brandi Reeves, MD, received a 5-year, NHLBI K08 Mentored Clinical Scientist Development Award for the research project, “Evaluating the Role of Hypoxia Inducible Factor in Myeloproliferative-Associated Thrombosis.”

Daniel Richardson, MD, received a $150K grant for developing a patient-reported measure to identify treatment priorities of patients with advanced blood cancers.

Division of Oncology

Ashwin Somasundaram, MD, received a $750K, 5-year, NHLBI K08 Mentored Clinical Scientist Development Award for his project titled, “The role of IL6-induced LAG3 as a resistance mechanism to PD1 blockade in solid tumor patients.”

Chad Pecot, MD, was awarded a $1.835M grant to investigate the roles circular RNA may have in regulating whether a form of lung cancer will spread or metastasize beyond the original caner site.

Division of Cardiology

Robert Wirka, MD, recieved a $300K grant from the American Heart Association for, “A transcriptomic barcoding approach to characterizing smooth muscle cell phenotypic modulation during atherosclerosis.”

Division of Infectious Diseases

David Rosen, MD, PhD, was awarded $578,585 to examine racial disparities in fatal overdose, self-harm, and perpetrating assaults following law enforcement-mediated involuntary commitment.

Division of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine

Claire Doerschuk, MD, was awarded $526,943 for her project titled, “UNC Research Training Program in Respiratory Diseases and Critical Care.”

Alex Despotes, MD, received $101, 500 from the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.
