Jonah Pierce, RN, received the 2023 Dr. Patrick Kenny Certified Nurse of the Year Award from the Association of Nurses in AIDS Care (ANAC). This award is given to the certified nurse who exemplifies excellence in HIV/AIDS Nursing and who advances the mission of the HIV/AIDS Nursing Certification Board.

Pierce, the UNC ID Clinic’s HIV Patient Care Coordinator, has been a fierce patient advocate in the ID Clinic for over 16 years. He is dedicated to caring for all 2,000+ patients served by the clinic, with a special passion for serving the LGBTQ community.

Patrick Kenny, EdD, RN, ACRN, APRN was a leader, educator and mentor to nurses and nursing students, patients, families and staff. He served in many roles for ANAC, including secretary of the board of directors and parliamentarian and president of the HIV/AIDS Nurse Certification Board (HANCB). While he was a leader in national and state nursing associations, a champion of excellence through board certification, he was, at the same time, a distinguished nurse educator and hospice nurse.
