The UNC School of Medicine and NC TraCS have awarded pilot funding to three teams for the 2020 Emerging Challenges in Biomedical Research Awards in a call highlighting research to address the COVID-19 pandemic.
From the department of medicine, Nigel Mackman, PhD, FAHA, John C. Parker Distinguished Professor of Medicine and associate director for basic science for the UNC Blood Research Center (BRC) and Nigel Key, MB, ChB, FRBP, Harold R. Roberts Distinguished Professor of Medicine and director of the BRC, were funded to lead a team of investigators to study plasma biomarkers to better understand the coagulopathy associated with COVID-19. This work could lead to life-saving anti-thrombotic interventions. The project will be co-funded by NC TraCS.
