Andrea Knittel, MD, PhD, assistant professor in the Division of General Obstetrics and Gynecology, is the winner of the 2019-20 James W. Woods Junior Faculty Award from the UNC School of Medicine.
The award recognizes promising young members of the medical school’s faculty early in their academic career. With this honor comes a stipend of $3,000 to be used at the winner’s discretion for support of research or scholarship.
“It is an important achievement and demonstrates with high respect with which you are held by your colleagues,” states the award letter. “It places you among the previous outstanding recipients.”
Knittel is the department’s Program Director for Incarcerated Women’s Health, and her research and clinical work have a special focus on reproductive transitions for women involved in the criminal justice system.
