Caring for women at every stage of their lives…

A mother with her newborn using the Couplet Care Bassinet created by UNC Researchers.

We are proud of UNC Ob/GynDrs. Kristin Tully and Alison Stuebe, together with their research colleagues (Drs. Carl Seashore and Catherine Sullivan), for transforming maternal–infant care with the Couplet Care Bassinet. Currently, the new patented bassinets are in use at the North Carolina Women’s Hospital.

This UNC-developed technology is patented and provides overbed access for mothers to see and reach their infants in the hospital after childbirth. The UNC spin-out company has installed bassinets at 4 other hospitals and the team is completing a Phase II SBIR award that includes a large randomized controlled trial at Johns Hopkins.

We’ve developed a unique device that promotes patient safety, breastfeeding, and efficient clinical care. I’m delighted for the partnership that brought this to routine care at our home hospital and the ongoing collaboration to support use here and beyond. – Kristen Tully, PhD
