My work centers on health for people and communities impacted by incarcerations and racial health disparities perpetuated by the criminal legal system . Specifically I focus on connections to essential health services upon reentry from jail and prison. My focus includes working with jails and prisons to improve access to medication for opioid use disorder and creating systems to effectively link people to care upon release. The model we employ in this work, through the North Carolina Formerly Incarcerated Transition (FIT) Program, utilizes Community Health Workers with personal histories of incarceration.
