Chengwen Li, PhD was promoted to Professor of Pediatrics effective May 1, 2023. Dr. Li has been a faculty member in Pediatrics since 2010. Dr. Li is member of the Gene Therapy Center and is an internationally recognized expert in adeno-associated virus (AAV) vectors for gene therapy.
Dr. Li received his MD and PhD from Peking Union Medical College (PUMC) in Beijing in 1995. After spending the next 5 years as Research Associate or Research Fellow in China and Japan, he came to the U.S. as a postdoctoral Research Associate at the UNC Gene Therapy Center, under the direction of Dr. Samulski. He was appointed as Research Assistant Professor in Pediatrics in March 2010, and promoted to Research Associate Professor in 2017.
