Dr. Matthew Pizzuto, Assistant Professor of Pediatrics has been appointed Physician Service Leader of the Pediatric Cardiac Intensive Care Unit (PCICU) in the North Carolina Children’s Hospital. He has served as interim PCICU service leader since 2021.
Dr. Pizzuto is a double board-certified, pediatric, cardiac intensivist, uniquely qualified to serve in this role. Upon completion of pediatric critical care fellowship at Duke, he joined the pediatric critical care faculty at NC Children’s. His training also includes a Bachelor of Science degree at the University of Virginia, medical school at SUNY-Buffalo, pediatrics residency at Yale New Haven Hospital, and pediatric cardiology fellowship at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor.
In addition to serving as the service line leader for the PCICU, he also currently serves as the children’s cardiology acute care service leader as well as director of the congenital Cardiac Disease Education and Training program for the PCICU. He co-leads numerous quality improvement and research programs aimed at improving pediatric resuscitation within the children’s hospital.
