Welcome New Physician Faculty: Maura Olcese, MD

September 14, 2024

Dr. Olcese received her bachelor degree from the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia in 2008. She earned her medical degree and a masters degree in epidemiology and biostatistics from Oregon Health and Science University in Portland, in 2017. She completed her internship with Ventura County Family Medicine and completed her Pediatric Residency with the Kaiser Oakland Medical Center in Oakland, CA in 2020. She completed a Pediatric Emergency Medicine fellowship with UNC/Wake Med in Raleigh in 2024. Welcome Maura!

Welcome New Physician Faculty: Kristen Capito, DO

August 19, 2024

Dr. Capito received her Bachelor of Arts degree with a focus in Cognitive Science from the University of Virginia, in Charlottesville, VA in 2008. She earned her DO from West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine in Lewisburg, WV, in 2016. Additionally, she completed her Pediatric Residency with the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston, SC in 2019, and recently graduated from her Pediatric Fellowship in Emergency Medicine with the University of Tennessee’s Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital partnership in Memphis, TN. Welcome Kristen!

Welcome New Physician Faculty: Aisha Venugopal, MD

Aisha Venugopal, MD joined the Pediatric Division of Emergency Medicine on September 7, 2023. She will be working at the Blue Ridge Urgent Care Center. Dr. Venugopal earned her medical degree from the Eastern Virginia Medical School in 2018. She completed her Pediatric residency between 2018 and 2021 at the Children’s Hospital of The King’s Daughters in Norfolk, VA. Beginning in 2021 Dr. Venugopal has been faculty at the Eastern Virginia Medical School Department of Pediatrics and worked in Urgent Care a the Children’s Hospital of The Kings Daughters. Welcome Aisha!!

Welcome New Provider: Latonya M. Logan, MSN

Latonya Logan joined Pediatric Emergency Medicine on August 8, 2022. In 2018, Ms. Logan received her Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing from the University of South Carolina Upstate in Greenville, SC and her Master of Science in Nursing from Drexel University in Philadelphia in 2021. Fitzgerald Promoted to Associate Professor of Pediatrics

Elizabeth Fitzgerald, MD was promoted to Associate Professor of Pediatrics effective May 1, 2022. Dr. Fitzgerald has been a faculty member in Pediatric Emergency Medicine since 2016. In addition to her clinical responsibilities, Dr. Fitzgerald is focused on Global Health.  She is the U.S.-based director of UNC pediatric resident activities in Malawi and has developed and implemented a biannual Pediatric Global Health SIM for UNC trainees planning to do electives in low-resource settings.
