Those with spinal cord injuries have unique needs that require collaboration along the continuum of care.  This conference will help demystify the medical challenges as well as help to provide education and outreach for providers in the community to aid in our goal of improving our patients’ quality of life.

The 2024 Conference, The ABCs of SCI: Demystifying SCI Medical Challenges for Community Care Providers, will focus on information specific to individuals with spinal cord injury and the primary care providers that attend to their needs. Patients with spinal cord injuries have unique challenges that require collaboration along the continuum of care. These sessions aim to demystify these medical challenges as well as help to provide education and outreach for providers in the community involved in the care of those with a spinal cord injury. Topics of discussion will include SCI-specific physical examinations, commonly seen patterns of injury, initial diagnosis of an SCI in the community setting, recognition of and treatment for spasticity, recommendations for therapy and equipment needs, introduction to urological care and sexuality issue specific to those with SCI, diagnosis of and treatment plans for neurogenic bowel, identification of commonly seen complications, and education on issues with dysautonomia.
