The UNC Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation is thrilled to welcome our new Clinical Associate Professor & Cancer Rehabilitation Medical Director, Sasha Knowlton, MD.

Dr. Knowlton received her Medical Degree from George Washington University School of Medicine and Health Sciences in 2012. After completing her residency at Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital, she went on to complete a fellowship in cancer rehabilitation at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. Dr. Knowlton previously served as a PM&R Assistant Professor at Harvard Medical School and as an attending physician at both Massachusetts General Hospital and Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital.  

Dr. Knowlton’s primary responsibilities will be to provide inpatient consultations at the North Carolina Cancer Hospital (NCCH), participate in multidisciplinary outpatient clinics at the NCCH and at the UNC Center for Rehabilitation Care, provide spasticity and pain management interventions for patients with cancer, participate in resident and medical student education, and collaborate with exceptional clinicians and researchers across the UNC campus, including the National Cancer Institute’s (NCI) designated Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center (LCCC). Dr. Knowlton will also be heavily involved in the development of a cancer rehabilitation program at UNC Hospitals, including starting new inpatient and outpatient clinical services, education, and research programs.
