The School of Medicine is excited to welcome Dr. Winston Li as the new Director of the Transition to Residency course in Individualization Phase. Dr. Li is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychiatry where he holds numerous teaching and leadership roles. He has been a Tarheel since 2014 when he joined the UNC Department of Psychiatry as a resident, winning the Resident Teaching Award for Medical Student Education every year of his residency training. He leads medical student teaching as the Director of Psychiatry for the FIRST program and he serves as the Co-Course Director for the Behavioral Health Course in the Physician Assistant Program. His experience with learners spans the transition from medical school to residency, as he also serves as the Associate Program Director for the Psychiatry Residency, where he leads the PGY1 Problems Based Modules and is the Creator and Director of the residency program’s Clinician Educator Track. He is also an active member of the Academy of Educators Leadership Council. Dr. Li has a keen interest in guiding learners through moments of transition, and he is eager to help all UNC medical students prepare for their next roles as interns.
