Dr. Nate Thomas, UNC School of Medicine Vice Dean of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion and a faculty member of the Department of Psychiatry, has been selected as a recipient of the 2022 Unsung Hero Award for his commitment to DEI. This is a great honor and represents the important contributions that Dr. Thomas has made across the SOM and UNC broadly.

The Unsung Hero Awards are annually awarded to up to two UNC staff/faculty, department or community/corporate entity who have exemplified a steadfast commitment to inclusion. Through their everyday work and advocacy, these awardees have made significant contributions to social justice, equity, and diversity and have made a positive difference in the lives of others at Carolina. The purpose of the Unsung Hero award is to recognize UNC faculty and staff or department or community/corporate entity who have exemplified a commitment to inclusion and through their work – demonstrated a commitment to equity and building community in a collaborative manner.

This award will be presented at an upcoming ceremony (now rescheduled due to the current covid surge) on February 22nd.
