Working with a Health Coach 

How can I best support my child while they work with a coach? 

  • Ask your teen/young adult what their goals are for the week and the bigger goals they made for themselves for the future. 
  • Some goals, they might need help to pay for items such as food, or taking a moment to show them how to do a skill you already know, like chopping vegetables or the best way to keep something fresh in the refrigerator.  
  • Celebrate the small “wins” or progress every step of the way together. 
  • If they don’t follow through on their goal, encourage them to continue to meet with their coach to talk about it. Sometimes we learn the most about situations and ourselves when things don’t work out as planned.  
  • The coaching process is all about empowering them to follow through on their own goal, however they may ask you to be an accountability partner along the way. No need to ever force them to follow through with their goal.
