Hiring Process Flow ChartAre you interested in volunteering for SHAC? SHAC has many programs, both clinical and community-based, at which currently enrolled undergraduates and graduate students in the health professions may volunteer. Attending-level positions are also open to UNC Healthcare residents and physicians. The diagram to the right describes the typical process for hiring. During active recruitment periods, the HR officer will forward applications for leadership positions to the appropriate program directors. Leadership positions typically require previous SHAC experience as a staff member. Non-leadership applicants and leadership applications submitted outside periods of active recruitment will be placed in a “general applicant” pool and selected on an as-needed basis. See our job description handbook for descriptions of roles and eligibility table to determine if you are eligible for a particular role.

After confirming your position(s) of interest and eligibility, complete the application below. Due to the large number of responses to this form, we cannot reply to each response. If the programs you select are not seeking new volunteers, your response will be logged and then retrieved when an opening becomes available or active recruitment resumes. Be aware that certain programs may require special training, a separate application, or may not be actively recruiting.

We are not currently actively recruiting for this year.

For more information on the various services offered at SHAC, please review the Weekly Clinics, Community Programs, and Student Projects pages. The steps for starting a project with SHAC are explained on our Project Proposal Process page. Email our for additional questions regarding the application process and/or the application itself. Student representatives associated with each school should be contacted for questions related to current opportunities at SHAC; their contact information is found here. Do NOT contact the HR officer with questions about the status of your application.
