Ernest Grant, From Jam Salesman to National Leader

Since his early days as a Jaycee, when he sold jam to raise money for the still-young North Carolina Jaycee Burn Center, Ernest Grant, PhD, RN,FAAN, has been eager to support his community. Today he serves as the coordinator for the Burn Center’s internationally recognized Burn Prevention Program and was recently reelected as Vice President of the American Nurses Association. We sat down with Dr. Grant to learn more about what brought him to UNC, why advocacy is so important to burn care and what it means to be a leader.

Congressman Price Annouces Award of FEMA Grant for UNC Burn Center

Dr. Bruce Cairns, medical director of the North Carolina Jaycee Burn Center received a call from Congressman David E. Price’s office on Wednesday, August 18, 2016 with the news that the Burn Center was being awarded a FEMA Grant to educate lower-income North Carolinians about fire safety and train first responders in burn treatment.

Dr. Bruce A. Cairns selected for NIH appointment

Dr. Bruce A. Cairns, Director of the North Carolina Jaycee Burn Center and John Stackhouse Distinguished Professor of Surgery, was selected to serve as a member of the Surgery, Anesthesiology and Trauma Study Section, Center for Scientific Review for the term beginning immediately and ending June 30, 2021.
