Congratulations to UNC Surgery resident Mansi Shah, M.D. who won the 2015 Resident Scholarship from the Southern Thoracic Surgical Association (STSA). The scholarship sponsors a general or thoracic surgery resident to travel to the STSA annual meeting, participate in programs, and meet thoracic surgeons.

Dr. Shah attended the STSA 62nd Annual Meeting, held November 4-7, 2015 in Lake Buena Vista, FL.

Benjamin E. Haithcock, M.D., a thoracic surgeon who is associate professor of surgery at UNC and director of UNC’s Thoracic Surgery Residency Program, nominated Dr. Shah for the scholarship, describing her as a “phenomenal candidate.” Dr. Shah also has been mentored by Jennifer S. Nelson, M.D., assistant professor of surgery at UNC and a congenital cardiac surgeon.

While attending the STSA meeting, Dr. Shah served as a resident moderator for the final plenary session of the meeting.
