Brian Diekman, PhD

Dr. Brian Diekman recently received a R21 grant funded through the National Institute of Health (NIH); National Institute of Arthritis and Musculoskeletal and Skin Diseases (NIAMS). The project, “Functional interrogation of putative osteoarthritis causal variants”, leverages advanced molecular biology and sequencing technologies to identify the specific genetic changes that affect cells in the joint. A better understanding of how genetic risk factors contribute to osteoarthritis may identify molecular pathways that could be targeted with new therapies.

Dr. Diekman is an Assistant Professor in UNC and NC State University’s Joint Department of Biomedical Engineering. UNC Co-Investigators for this project include Dr. Doug Phanstiel and Dr. Richard Loeser.
