Congratulations to Drs. Matthew Coward, Brad Figler, Sherry Ross, Angela Smith, and Davis Viprakasit on qualifying to be included in Castle Connolly’s 2020 Listing of Top Doctors for the first time.

They join previously listed UNC Urologists Drs. Kristy Borawski (First Listed in 2019), Timothy Bukowski (First Listed in 2017), Matthew Nielsen (First Listed in 2017), Richard Sutherland (First Listed in 2010), and Eric Wallen (First Listed in 2009), who all received the Top Doctor designation again this year.

Of special note, Drs. Sherry Ross and Angela Smith also joined Dr. Kristy Borawski in being listed among Castle Connolly’s “Exceptional Women In Medicine” for 2020. Dr. Borawski received this award as part of the 2019 listing and maintained the designation again this year.

Castle Connolly Top Doctor

There are over 850,000 practicing doctors in the United States and not all qualify to be a Castle Connolly Top Doctor. Unlike other ‘find a doctor’ services, Castle Connolly has curated approximately 60,000 board-certified US physicians for inclusion in their Top Doctor guide utilizing a combination of peer nominations and assessments. It is their goal to help patients identify the right doctors for their needs and highlight them and their affiliated hospitals.

After a doctor is nominated, Castle Connolly’s physician-led research team begins their work to screen each doctor and confirm whether they meet a strict set of standards. These standards can cover professional qualifications, education, hospital and faculty appointments, research leadership, professional reputation, and disciplinary history. Castle Connolly will also ask nominators to consider not only the training and clinical skills of the physicians they nominate, but also interpersonal skills such as listening and communicating effectively, demonstrating empathy, and instilling trust and confidence.

It is important to note that Castle Connolly does not take payments from doctors to be included on their list.
