About UNC SOM Student Government

In an effort to increase transparency, inclusivity, and accurately represent our role on campus, this body of student governance, formally Whitehead Medical Society, is now known as the UNC School of Medicine Student Government.

UNC SOM Student Government represents all students in the M.D. degree program and serves both the social and academic interests of all UNC medical students. This organization of active and concerned students has been in existence since before the 1950’s and since its inception has provided leadership and enthusiasm that has often been the driving force for improvement and innovation at UNC School of Medicine.
