Melissa Kepke

Melissa Kepke, (MS2)

How do you manage to stay balanced and healthy in spite of the busy med school schedule?

I stay balanced by trying to not take myself too seriously (Pictures 1-3), continuing to do the things I like (like running fun races Picture 6) and making time to hang out with the people I love (pictures 4&5)!

Why do you want to become an advocate and what three qualities will you bring to the job?

I want to be an advocate because I really enjoy the college system (Picture 2) and think that it provides great opportunities to get to know classmates and their families.  I would love to be able to be a resource for the new MS1s and teach them about how awesome it is to be in Cross College! I enjoy planning and hosting events and have some ideas for future Cross activities! I have lots of energy, a close working relationship with the Chief and Cross Colleges’ cheerleader (Picture 2) and a secret talent for t-shirt throwing that would benefit me as advocate next year!

What’s the most important piece of advice you would give to an MS1 at the beginning of the year?

I would advise an MS1 to simply enjoy their first year!  This is a great time to meet great people, take advantage of the opportunities UNC offers and to learn some cool stuff!

What is your favorite artery, organ, or nerve; and why?

Muscles… they help you do cool things (Picture 1 &6).

If you could have any super power, what would it be? What would you have people call you?

Who doesn’t want to fly?  I would be known as “The Cross College Crusader” (Picture 3)

If you had a theme song that played every time you entered a room, what would it be?

I am tempted to answer “Wobble Baby” but I think I will go with “Here comes the Sun” because it is more work appropriate and exceptionally cheery.
