BCAS faculty member Joyce Besheer has been recognized for excellence in mentoring. She was recognized by the UNC School of Medicine’s Office of Graduate Education for her long-term commitment supporting BBSP students and other trainees.

Besheer, a professor with appointments in the Bowles Center for Alcohol Studies and the Department of Psychiatry, received the Award for Excellence in Basic Science Mentoring. Mentors must demonstrate high integrity, clearly articulate expectations, support trainees’ development, create an inclusive lab environment, and provide opportunities for mentees to develop their networks. Faculty were nominated by their current and past trainees as well as faculty in their departments.
