Welcome to the
UNC Anesthesiology
Residency Program

Since 1969, the UNC Department of Anesthesiology has proudly trained generations of exceptional anesthesiologists. Our ACGME-accredited program offers 64 residency positions—16 per class—and consistently attracts top candidates from across the country.  At UNC, residents gain invaluable experience caring for some of North Carolina’s sickest patients at a high-acuity Level 1 Trauma Center. This exposure builds unmatched clinical competence and prepares our graduates for competitive fellowships and successful careers in academic and private practice settings.  Despite the complexity and volume of cases, UNC offers a uniquely collegial and supportive training atmosphere, rooted in a strong academic mission. We are deeply committed to cultivating a diverse, equitable, and inclusive environment that enhances learning, fuels research, and ensures the delivery of exceptional patient care.Resident education is a core priority. Our program supports comprehensive board preparation, a robust simulation curriculum, and innovative educational initiatives such as the Intern Academic Medicine Rotation and CA-1 Family Anesthesia Day.  Ultimately, the strength of UNC lies in its people. Our department is home to nationally recognized faculty dedicated to teaching, as well as a collaborative, team-oriented group of residents who support one another and build lasting friendships. We are also fortunate to work alongside outstanding CRNAs, AAs, anesthesia technicians, and research and support staff.I truly couldn’t imagine being anywhere else. Please explore our website, and even more importantly, I hope to have the opportunity to meet you.
