UNC Anesthesiology is excited to announce Associate Professor of Anesthesiology Tracy Wester, MD, will serve as our next Pediatric Anesthesiology Fellowship Director. Dr. Wester completed her anesthesiology residency at Washington University (St. Louis, MO), Pediatric Anesthesiology Fellowship at Vanderbilt University (Nashville, TN) and served on clinical faculty at the Medical University of South Carolina. At MUSC, she was instrumental in developing a pediatric anesthesiology fellowship program that focused on building each fellow’s research and regional anesthesia experience.  Dr. Wester will transition into the role of Fellowship Program Director (PD) over six to 12 months under the guidance of Professor of Anesthesiology and Pediatrics Concetta Lupa, MD, who has served in this role for 10 years.

UNC Anesthesiology Interim Chair Anthony Passannante, MD, noted: “Since joining UNC Anesthesiology, Dr. Wester has rapidly demonstrated excellence as a clinician, a passionate educator, and a leader in the operating room. Her enthusiasm for developing fellows into experts in the perioperative care of pediatric patients is inspiring. She will be a true asset to our fellowship program for years to come.”

Dr. Lupa has done an exemplary job in building and sustaining our Pediatric Anesthesiology fellowship into the excellent program it is today. She has guided so many fellows through their fellowship experience while simultaneously forging a national reputation for herself and the fellowship program through the Society of Pediatric Anesthesia [SPA] and Pediatric Anesthesiology Program Directors Association [PAPDA]. As a department, we are extremely grateful for her steady leadership in this role for so many years.”
